When constantly highlighting differences it always sets apart the subject. In many cases this does more harm than good — especially in the context of social interactions. This is applicable regardless of subject or topic or person or group.
Not an experiment
When asked, I talk about my friends. Stop, that's it. I don't go grouping them into categories such as: Black; Gay; Chinese; Christian; White or Female. They are just my friends and not an anthropological experiment.Society should stop labelling humans as if it was an experiment.
